Roses and Santa Margarida
Roses is a nearby town located 5 km to the north from Empuriabrava. Formerly the important port and the place where first Greek colony on the Iberian peninsula emerged, the town carefully preserves remains of its past. Cuitadella de Roses was for centuries a stronghold protecting the port and the town. The museum of the Cuitadella covers thousands years of rich local history - from Greek and Roman times to present days. The Cuitadella itself is not only an archeological site but also a place for numerous live musical performances and shows.
To the north of Roses, over the hill of Puig Rom you may find Canyelles Petit, small and picturesque area with its own small beach. It is connected to Roses by road and a nice footpath that starts from the Lighthouse of Roses.
Santa Margarida lies between Empuriabrava and Roses and is effectively a Roses' district mainly consisting of hotels and apartments for rent.
