Areas of Costa Brava
The Costa Brava is divided into three sections - Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà and La Selva. The parts of the coast has rich historical background which differc from one another so its interesting to visit almost every town around to understand the charecter of this charming area.
Castelló d’Empúries
Castelló d’Empúries is the nearest town and the administrative center which Empuriabrava belongs to. if you rent the villa you may easily reach the place by walk or bike, it's just 2-3 km away. The town, previously center of local county, has a calm medieval center with large basilica de Santa Maria being the most praised landmark.
Girona
The capital of Girona province is not just the largest city on Costa Brava, it is also among the most interesting places to visit.
Thanks to its rich past, the city remains a magnet for all history lovers. You won't regret walking through the old city's narrow streets, visiting famous Jewish quarter and cathedrals. This is a nice walk and a pure touch of history. If you plan to rent a villa or stay in a hotel on Costa Brava it may be a good place to visit if you are a bit bored by sunbathing or if the weather gets cold.
Reaching Girona from Empuriabrava is easy - you may drive by local roads or highway, just follow the signs. The highway AP7 is faster but the local road (N-II) goes through picturesque surroundings and small towns, so it may be quite interesting to take this road if you have time.
Besalu
Besalu is located approximately 20 km west of Figueres in the Garrotxa region and may be reached from Empuriabrava by car within 30 minutes. Old roman bridge leads you to the well-preserved medieval center with 12th century churches and several unique sights such as ancient Jewish purifying baths, the Mikwe.
